Bears stick with Andy Dalton as starter in 7-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft - With the First Pick

The 2020 NFL season for the Chicago Bears was a success to some and a failure to many who wanted more but to go 8-8 with Mitchell Trubsiky under center should be looked at as nothing short of a success. Last season was the third for head coach Matt Nagy and he helped lead the Bears to a playoff appearance but ultimately lost (9-21) in the wildcard round to the New Orleans Saints.

The Mitchell Trusbiky and Nick Foles era has come to an end in Chicago but the position was at best marginally improved with the signing of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton is far from the future of the franchise but could serve as a good bridge quarterback to keep the team competitive and so Matt Nagy can keep his job. Dalton is an average to above-average signal-caller at his best but is a stable option who limits turnovers and is known for being a respected leader in locker rooms.

Looking at Bears offseason thus far

Chicago has plenty of talent on the roster to be competitive if they can keep their key guys healthy and on the field. This off-season they have made a slew of roster changes by signing guys like defensive backs Deon Bush, Artie Burns, Desmond Trufant, DeAndre Houston-Carson as well as RB Damien Williams, quarterback Andy Dalton, and a slew of other guys. The Bears also extended a few guys on roster like punter Pat O’Donnell, kicker Cairo Santos, defensive lineman Mario Edwards and even franchise-tagged wide receiver Allen Robinson.

Heading into the 2021 NFL Draft expect the Bears to take a look at addressing the cornerback position in the early rounds as well as the offensive line and possibly even quarterback if the opportunity presents itself to secure a signal-caller they like.
