The Chicago Cubs went into yesterday’s game against the Atlanta Braves hitting just .166/.267./307, and then erupted for a season-high 13 runs on a season-high 14 hits, including a season-high 9 extra-base hits, which itself was including a season-high six home runs. The result was a 71-point bump in OPS that took the Cubs from a so-very-far-down-bottom-of-the-league slash line up to .184/.281/.364, which is only SECOND worst in the league! The Cubs’ .644 team OPS is now ONE POINT better than the terrible Milwaukee Brewers.
And, hey – add another 71 points today, and boom, you’ve got the 13th best offense in baseball, Chicago!
For a more modest target, the Cubs could try to pass the Yankees (.655) or Texas Rangers (.656) today, though in full fairness, those teams get to use a designated hitter …
