The 2020 college football season just concluded with the decimation of the Ohio State Buckeyes at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide. So now what? It’s 2021 NFL Draft time. Better yet, it is 2021 NFL Mock Draft time.

Players are weighing their options. April is approaching, and many already opted into the draft by forgoing the remainder of their 2020 college football season – and thus also forgoing any eligibility they had left.

Prepare for a full first round 2021 NFL Mock Draft

This 2021 NFL Mock Draft is being compiled based on the section of the draft in which the order of picks has already been determined, as well as expert predictions on where the final picks of the draft will land. This draft also takes into account that no trades will be made because, well, we that can’t be accurately predicted.

So now, in the words of Anakin Skywalker, “This is where the fun begins.”

Here is my first 2021 NFL Mock Draft for the first round.

Pick 1: Jacksonville Jaguars – QB Trevor Lawrence – Clemson

He’s simply the best, and the Jaguars are simply the worst.

Listen, Minshew isn’t the answer. Nobody claimed he was, anyway. The Jaguars tanked the season almost perfectly in order to ensure they would have a legitimate shot at the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck.

Lawrence is the real deal. If he ends up as a bust, everyone will have to eat crow on this one. He’ll end up as the biggest draft miss ever. Period. The end.

Lawrence is a 6’6 230-pound statue of a QB with solid enough wheels to make it to the first down line when scrambling between the tackles on a busted play. He can get outside the pocket and anchor his feet into position to sling a rocket over his shoulder at any part of the field if needed. While he’s not quite Russell Wilson yet, he is also a superior improvisor and can make most throws on the run, specializing in sideline darts.

The only issue he has is that he needs to learn to move through his progressions more naturally. He sometimes stares down receivers and doesn’t make it to the correct read quick enough. However, a little next-level coaching will do him a lot of good in that department. He’s the most physically gifted quarterback to enter the NFL draft in possibly a decade.

He’s a more mobile Peyton Manning. If that doesn’t scare you, then I don’t know what will.

Pick 2: New York Jets – QB Justin Fields – Ohio State

The grittiness required to get the job done.

Justin Fields has heart. He showed that in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against Clemson. He’s a competitor, and that’s the kind of guy you want at quarterback.

Fields’ draft stock has fluctuated throughout the year, but not by large margins. He entered and exited the 2020 college football season as the second-best quarterback prospect in the draft class.

At 6’3 and around 225 pounds, Fields has solid size for an NFL quarterback. He had what some consider to be an underwhelming final season at Ohio State, but he has the tools to be a franchise quarterback. The Jets seem to be craving one.

If I were the Jets, I would be looking to trade down for a haul and build around Sam Darnold, but fans and some experts believe he needs a change of scenery. With a new head coach hire looming, the Jets instead target a quarterback who can scramble on designed run plays, as well as decimate man coverage blitzes on third downs when he gets the chance. Oh, and his arm is spectacular, even though he seems to occasionally trust it too much. He needs to learn to be more thorough with his reads instead of sometimes panicking and taking sacks, which could inhibit his effectiveness as an NFL passer early in his career if he does not change his game.

Fields isn’t who the Jets really wanted all season, but he’s someone they should be excited to get.
