Eagles News: Deshaun Watson to the NFC East? - Bleeding Green Nation

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

If DeShaun Watson gets traded, these are the teams who need him the most - SB Nation
Washington Football Team. Why it makes sense: This is a playoff team, with an elite defense, and enough offensive weapons that they’re pretty much a quarterback away from making a major push. Washington has boat loads of cap space, meaning they could afford Watson AND still get a weapon or two in free agency. Why it doesn’t: The big sticking point for Watson in Houston is dysfunction, and while the ship has been steadied under Ron Rivera, this is still one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NFL. Would Watson be happy? That’s hard to say.

Watson for Wentz? A look at the (unlikely) trade possibility - 94WIP
There is a world where the Texans convince themselves that Wentz can be fixed, and that if they are going to lose Watson, bringing in Wentz is about as good of a consolation price as they will get in terms of players in a deal back for their franchise quarterback. As will be the case all offseason, the key will be a team’s evaluation of Wentz. If they still believe, the money/picks won’t be an issue.

Deshaun Watson Frustrated By Texans General Manager, Head Coach Hiring Process - Battle Red Blog
At this point, it doesn’t feel accidental anymore. It feels almost intentional that he Texans have blatantly ignored their star player’s wishes despite pledging to abide by them beforehand. Deshaun Watson’s refusal to communicate with the team right now is a completely appropriate response to an organization as hypocritical as this. While the culprit of these actions is currently unknown, some have already taken a guess as to who should shoulder the blame.

Deshaun Watson Unhappy with Texans - Over The Cap
How much would the Texans want for Watson? It would have to be a lot. I’ve seen some people say the first pick in the draft but that would not be even close to enough. The first thing to consider is that Watson is a sure bet. He is a top 5 QB in the NFL. I don’t care what the supposed upside is of Trevor Lawrence- it’s still a gamble and it would be an expensive gamble as well. While we can look at the rookie contract as cheap (Lawrence’s contract will average about $9 million a year) once we look at that $27M prepaid on Watson its basically sinking about $16 million per year over the next 4 years into Lawrence in a straight up trade. That’s still affordable but who would you rather be? The team holding Watson for under $30 million a year for the next five years or the team with Lawrence for $16 million over the next 4?

Todd McShay’s mock draft features an unlikely outcome for the Eagles - BGN
I feel pretty confident that the Eagles won’t be breaking this 42-year-old streak in April. This organization clearly doesn’t value the position highly enough to take one in the first round, let alone at No. 6 overall. Some will argue that Parsons should be the exception to the Eagles’ rule. Few will disagree that he’s an intriguing talent and that Philly needs help at the position. But there will be other opportunities to properly address that spot. By contrast, there won’t be as many opportunities to potentially acquire a difference-making wide receiver. On that note, it’s pretty crazy how McShay’s mock has the Eagles passing on Ja’Marr Chase, who might not even make it to Philly’s selection! Taking Parsons over Chase would be bananas.

What on Earth did Doug Pederson do to Carson Wentz? - NBCSP
If anything, Wentz should be grateful to Pederson for helping him become one of the NFL’s top seven or eight quarterbacks before this past season began. It’s really hard to imagine what Pederson could have done to Wentz between the end of 2019 and the end of 2020 for things to unravel like this. And if Wentz sees getting benched when he was statistically the worst quarterback in the NFL as some sort of violation of trust then he needs to look in the mirror and come to terms with the fact that he deserved to sit. Pederson hasn’t been perfect. He hasn’t had a great year, that’s obvious. But there isn’t one thing he’s done that warrants Wentz responding the way he has.

Rebuilding defense is big among offseason plans - PE.com
As the Eagles evaluate for 2021, what do they have in the secondary? Avonte Maddox should be healthy and the Eagles need to find out where he is most successful – nickel cornerback? Outside cornerback? Safety? – and pray he stays on the field – his snap count and games played have decreased in each of his three seasons. Nickell Robey-Coleman signed a one-year contract in the 2020 free agency period. So did safety/cornerback/hybrid Jalen Mills. Are they back for 2021? What about safety Rodney McLeod, who suffered the torn ACL late in the season? Can the Eagles count on him for 2021? As a whole, then, the defense offers so many questions. The first step is to find the right coordinator and decide what scheme is best for the personnel here. Or, given all the questions, what is the best defense for the coordinator and bring in the right personnel to fit the scheme. This is a big project, one that includes all three levels of the defense. It is not a plug-and-play situation.

Nesting Pairs of Bald Eagles Found In Every NJ County, First Time in 40 Years of Monitoring - NBC Philadelphia
Nesting pairs of bald eagles were found last year in all 21 New Jersey counties, something never before documented in more than 40 years of monitoring by wildlife officials and volunteers, according to a report released Thursday. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection released the report revealing that researchers found a record 220 nesting pairs of eagles that produced 307 young last year. An additional 28 pairs were tracked at nests but did not lay eggs. The report is in line with a well-established trend of recovery in the bald eagle population nationally, which was critically endangered in the 1970s and 1980s because of habitat destruction and the widespread use of DDT.

Report: The Dallas Cowboys have fired defensive coordinator Mike Nolan after one year with team - Blogging The Boys
Throughout the season the Cowboys allowed more big-time performances and points to be scored against them than most groups to ever suit up for the franchise. Players expressed frustration with the scheme and it felt like it was too much to run back in 2021. Often times in these situations the person at the top is who has to pay for it and that is what happened to the defense. It was reported on Friday afternoon that the Cowboys have fired defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

Poll: Should Giants keep Jason Garrett as offensive coordinator or move on? - Big Blue View
How much of that is Garrett’s fault? How much can be linked to the season-ending Saquon Barkley injury? The pandemic that wrecked the offseason? The learning curve of a second-year quarterback and a young offensive line? The lack of dynamic receiving weapons? Coach Joe Judge deflected questions about his coaching staff in his season-ending press conference. Gettleman said this about Garrett. “As far as the potential of Jason leaving, of course it makes you a little antsy. Just imagine, anybody, any of you guys, having your fourth editor in four years. It’s the same thing. It’s no different. We’ll adjust and adapt and do what we have to do and obviously anything we do moving forward, Daniel is a big part of it. We’re certainly conscious of that piece, to answer your question.” The Giants appear to want to go the route of establishing schematic continuity and upgrading personnel where possible before forcing the third-year quarterback to learn a fourth offensive system in four years.

Washington fans feeling good as the team prepares to face favored Buccaneers on Saturday - Hogs Haven
Tampa Bay, who entered the playoffs as the top-seeded wildcard team after losing twice to the New Orleans Saints and finishing second in the NFC South, are favored by 8 points against the NFC East champion Washington Football Team. Washington fans aren’t really worried about that. After two decades of embarrassing Dan Snyder ownership and a decade of bumbling Bruce Allen “management”, there is a feeling, that came with the arrival of Ron Rivera, Jason Wright and others, that the franchise may have finally turned a corner by turning over the operation, both on and off the field, to capable football people.

A Complete History of Mediocre NFL Division Champs Winning in the Wild-Card Round - The Ringer
Washington made the playoffs with a losing record. The Tampa Bay Bucs have looked like the class of the league at times this year. Still, here are nine reasons why you shouldn’t count out the home team this Saturday.

Ten rings, 107 playoff starts, one stage: Which ‘old guy’ QB has best shot at Super Bowl? - ESPN
If Ben Roethlisberger says it’s OK to say it, then go ahead and call these NFL playoffs the year of the “old guys.” And Big Ben isn’t even the oldest. The NFL’s five oldest starting quarterbacks are all still playing, while some of the future stars, such as Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson, are at home watching. This postseason, which begins Saturday with wild-card weekend, marks the first time five quarterbacks age 37 or older will start in the same playoffs in NFL history. That’s Tom Brady (43), Drew Brees (41), Philip Rivers (39), Roethlisberger (38) and Aaron Rodgers (37).

Why epidemiologists are so worried about the new Covid-19 variants, in 2 charts - Vox
A more contagious SARS-CoV-2 virus is a deadlier one. Not because it gets any individual sicker but because it reaches more people. More illness means more cases: more mild cases, more severe cases, more long-term complications, more hospitalizations, and more deaths. There’s no one perfect estimate for how much more contagious the SARS-CoV-2 variant called B.1.1.7, which was first discovered in the UK, might be. There needs to be more careful lab work done in animals to nail it down, which could take a few more weeks. But preliminary estimates find it to be between 30 percent and 70 percent more contagious. This variant is now popping up all over the world: in the US, throughout Europe, in Asia, and elsewhere. It’s especially concerning, considering that, in the US and elsewhere, the pandemic’s spread is still reaching new heights.
