It doesn’t look like Omar Khan will be leaving the Steelers just yet. The NHL’s new franchise in Seattle is going to have some very familiar Penguins alumni in the front office. A WPIAL product is upset about what happened in Philadelphia Sunday night. And there is an update on that allegation of Cleveland Browns players drag racing.
Oh, Aaron Rogers likes Iron City beer.
All that in Wednesday’s “First Call.”
Browns update
The two alleged drag racing Cleveland Browns are planning to plead not guilty Wednesday morning. That’s according to their attorney, via the NFL Network.
Receiver Rashard Higgins and rookie left tackle Jedrick Wills were cited for drag racing by police Tuesday morning in Westlake, Ohio.
Attorney Kevin Spellacy, who is representing #Browns WR Rashard Higgins and LT Jedrick Wills Jr., tells me he’ll plead not guilty for both players on drag-racing charges Wednesday morning. It’s a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months and a $1,000 fine.

The Browns come to Heinz Field Sunday to play the Steelers in a playoff game.
According to an Associated Press account of the story, an incident report said a marijuana joint was “found and destroyed.” It wasn’t immediately known in which vehicle it was found. A team spokesman said the Browns are aware of the incident, “gathering more information and will handle appropriately.”
Omar is out?
Steelers salary cap savant Omar Khan has been rumored as a potential NFL general manager for years. This week it was reported that he was in the mix for the Houston Texans job. The Texans confirmed that report Monday.
But now ESPN’s Adam Schefter says Nick Casserio is getting the gig.
Houston Texans now officially have hired former Patriots’ exec Nick Caserio as their general manager, as @McClain_on_NFL said they would. The man they tried to hire in 2019 is hired in 2021.

Casserio was the former the former Patriots director of player personnel.
Quite the endorsement
In Wisconsin, they know their beer. And Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been known to enjoy one or two from time to time.
OK, one. Slowly. Very slowly.

So when such a beer connoisseur endorses Iron City, it’s a newsworthy item. And Rodgers did exactly that on former NFL player Pat McAfee’s show.

Now, maybe Rodgers was doing that to play to McAfee’s roots as a Western Pennsylvania guy. He’s a Plum grad and former West Virginia Mountaineer punter.
If so, job well done.
Regardless, if Rodgers should ever succeed Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, I’m sure an endorsement is waiting.
See you in Seattle
Former Penguins star Ron Francis is stocking his Seattle Kraken front office with lots of fellow Pittsburgh alumni.
The franchise’s first general manager hired both Jason Botterill and Norm Maciver Tuesday.
We’re excited to add two exceptional people to our #SeaKraken staff.⁰⁰Welcome Jason & Norm! https://t.co/HZFpg6Cz6d

Botterill was part of the Penguins front office during a 10-year stretch which saw the team win Stanley Cups in 2009, 2016 and 2017. He’ll be an assistant G.M. in Seattle as he was here in Pittsburgh. Most recently, Botterill was the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres.
Maciver, a former Pens defenseman in 1995-96, spent the last 14 seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, who won three Cups as well.
Norm Maciver reunites with Ron Francis in Seattle.
Maciver had a pretty underappreciated and far-too-brief tenure with the Penguins in the mid-1990s.

Maciver is slated to be director of player personnel in Seattle. He had been director of player development, director of player personnel, and assistant general manager with Chicago.
Straight from Miles’ mouth
Philadelphia running back Miles Sanders is among those unhappy with the benching of Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts for third-stringer Nate Sudfeld Sunday night.
The much-publicized incident helped Washington to win the NFC East and fended off any chance of New York winning it at 6-10.
Now the Penn State product and Woodland Hills grad is letting his opinion be known.
“Man, if I’m being honest, nobody liked the decision. Nobody,” Sanders told 94WIP Tuesday. “That’s all I can say really. I don’t know who was the main person behind that decision. All I know is that a lot of people on the team (were) confused.”
But let’s be honest. The Eagles stink. The whole division stinks. And Washington was probably the best team in it anyway.
