Beck has also been working with Trey Lance of North Dakota State and Zach Wilson of BYU.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic wrote a feature about Beck this week. The quarterback turned coach worked with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan during their time together in Washington, and the two remain close. That has likely been very beneficial as the Niners continue gathering information on Fields to go along with their homework on Trey Lance of North Dakota State and Mac Jones of Alabama.
"Knowing that I've been around (Fields) the last three months, he'll reach out and just want to ask questions or talk," Beck told The Athletic. "... I know how he's going to coach quarterbacks. I know what he's looking for. So I think it's an easy extension of Kyle in terms of the eyes I have for quarterbacks."
According to Michael Silver of NFL Media, Beck isn't the only resource linked to Fields who has ties to Shanahan. Another private coach who has been working with the former Buckeye is Ron Veal (h/t to Patrick Tulini for the find).
Veal is reportedly an original staff member of the QB Collective, an organization made up of NFL coaches and experts who work with young quarterbacks. The QB Collective has ties to Kyle and his father, Mike Shanahan, and Veal remains "heavily involved."
THREAD 1) There has been a lot of talk recently about the connection between John Beck, who is privately coaching Justin Fields, and Kyle (and Mike) Shanahan, who were Beck's OC and HC, respectively, when he was a Washington backup in 2010-11. Here's another layer to consider...

3) Mike Shanahan attended the first @QBCollective event in 2016 and has been a mainstay. Both Kyle Shanahan and Justin Fields (then a top high school prospect) attended the 2017 event, as did Veal...

Jones had been the favorite to land with San Francisco via the draft. However, since Fields' workout in front of several NFL teams this week, including the 49ers, the Ohio State product now has the best odds to head to the Bay Area. Fields is also the favorite amongst fans, who would love to see the dynamic passer paired with a brilliant play-caller like Shanahan.
The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin on April 29 and will be held in Cleveland, Ohio.

Silver: Some believe 49ers could draft Justin Fields, taking Shanahan's offense to 'another dimension'

As is the case with many analysts, NFL Network's Marc Ross sees Justin Fields of Ohio State as the better prospect when compared to Mac Jones of Alabama. The former Buckeye will hold a second pro day next week, but Ross feels the quarterback has already shown everything he needs to show to NFL teams. "If teams, right now, are still trying to figure out if Justin Fields is the guy, then they've already missed the evaluation, or he's not their guy," Ross told Andrew Siciliano, Bucky Brooks, and Mike Silver on NFL Network. Ross notes that with teams likely already having all of the information they need on the quarterback prospects, it is admirable that Fields is holding another pro day when he has little to gain. "This is just him being a competitor

Justin Fields of Ohio State will hold a second pro day workout on Wednesday. Five days later, Trey Lance of North Dakota State will take part in his second. Both are trying to ensure that they are selected ahead of Mac Jones of Alabama. Trevor Lawrence of Clemson is expected to be drafted No. 1 overall. The New York Jets are expected to select Zach Wilson of BYU at No. 2. Assuming San Francisco targets a quarterback, that leaves Jones, Fields, and Lance as San Francisco's choices at No. 3. Jones is the overwhelming favorite to be the pick if you ask members of the national media. Fans would much prefer the more athletic and higher ceilinged prospects in Fields or Lance. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch chose to attend Jones'

Pro Football Focus released its latest mock draft, courtesy of analyst Ben Linsey. The San Francisco 49ers are highly anticipated to select a quarterback following their recent trade up to the No. 3 spot. They'll have their choice of some good options. With Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson nearly a lock to go No. 1 and No. 2, San Francisco can go with Justin Fields of Ohio State, Trey Lance of North Dakota State, or Mac Jones of Alabama. Linsey has San Francisco going with the player who has been the popular choice among 49ers fans—Fields. "Fields' game has been put under the
