How Hunter Renfrow and a spirited Raiders offense got the best of the Rams at their joint practice - The Athletic

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Hunter Renfrow says he has indeed talked trash at some point in his life.

“Couple of times,” the Raiders’ third-year slot receiver said. “Felt bad about it afterward.”

Renfrow was one of the few players not raising a ruckus with his mouth at Wednesday’s spirited joint practice against the Rams, but he caused the most noise as teammates roared every time he beat All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Yes, as in multiple.

“If I can beat Jalen Ramsey, then I can beat anybody in the NFL, because he is one of the best,” Renfrow said. “That’s how I approach it. He got me a couple of times, and hopefully tomorrow we make each other better again.”

The Raiders suited up at their hotel and got off the bus at the practice fields fired up. The light drizzle and overcast weather were also a welcome change from the desert heat of Las Vegas. They wanted to make an impression, were free to run around and hit people and weren’t going to wilt in the sun after a few plays.

And oh yes, coach Jon Gruden was yelling profanities and chewing out players for bad plays. He turned it up a notch, even for him, and clearly wanted to win practice.

“That’s what competition brings you,” Renfrow said. “That’s what he does on game day. Yelling at us, yelling at the refs, yelling at the other team. Same thing today. He loves to compete.
