With mandatory mini-camp for the Minnesota Vikings coming this week, there has been a great deal of speculation as to whether or not star defensive end Danielle Hunter would be in attendance. Hunter is, reportedly, unhappy with his current contract despite the fact that it has three years remaining on it from the extension he signed a couple of years ago.
If this report is accurate, it sounds like #99 is going to be at the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center this week.

James Jones from the NFL Network. . .and, yes, because he’s a former Packer you can take this with as many grains of salt as you deem necessary. . .is reporting that Hunter will be in attendance for this week’s camp.
Hunter signed a five-year, $72 million extension with the Vikings in 2018, garnering Second-Team All-Pro honors that year. He followed that up by being named a First-Team All-Pro in 2019, but missed all of last season with a neck injury. Mike Zimmer initially described the injury as a “tweak,” but after Hunter underwent surgery the team placed him on injured reserve in early September.
Both sides have at least a little bit of leverage in this situation. On the one hand, the Vikings’ pass rush was absolutely atrocious last season without Hunter to anchor the offensive line, and compared to other. . .and, quite frankly, lesser. . .edge rushers, it would appear that he’s significantly underpaid at this point. On the other hand, having missed an entire season with an injury that you really can’t mess around with too much, it’s hard to justify giving him more money until he’s back and producing again.
Hopefully with Hunter in attendance at this week’s mini-camp, the two sides can come together and work something out to keep #99 in purple for the long term. We’ll see how things develop this week as the team gets together for the final time before Training Camp starts in late July.
