Utah Jazz take on the LA Clippers in Game 3 of the NBA Playoffs - SLC Dunk

No Mike Conley, no problem .... again?

After two tough wins at home against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Utah Jazz will again be without Mike Conley who will miss his third straight game because of his mild hamstring strain. So far it hasn’t mattered as Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have stepped up in a big way. The Yin Yang attack of the Jazz on both sides of the ball is as potent as ever with Donovan Mitchell as the central part of the offense and Rudy Gobert at the center of the defense. It’s an attack that the Clippers have not been able to figure out for long.

In Game 2 when the Clippers were down big they switched to a zone defense and it seemed to muck up what the Jazz did. It will surely be something that Ty Lue throws at the Jazz again because it was a part of what helped the Clippers back in the game. Although it might not have just simply been the zone. When you look at the on/off numbers of Rudy Gobert in this series, it might simply have been a case of Derrick Favors having a bad game.

In Game 2 Gobert was a +14 and was an absolute force in the paint. He recorded 20 rebounds, 3 blocks and collected a number of souls. Derrick Favors on the other hand was a -8 for the game. He was 0/1 fromt he field, 0 rebounds, missed his only 2 free throws, 1 turnover and 4 personal fouls. After what has been an awesome playoffs for Derrick he had probably his worst game. Hopefully it’s not a sign of wear and tear catching up. Whatever the case, if Utah doesn’t have a good game they need to play Gobert longer minutes, Gobert has averaged 36 minutes or less the entire playoffs. In contrast Paul George played 43 minutes in Game 2. If there is an adjustment to be made here by Quin Snyder here, it would simply be to play his game-changing center more.

The Clipper received bad news about their best rim-protector yesterday. Serge Ibaka will miss the game because of back surgery and so there aren’t a lot of different options for the Clippers at this point.

We’re not in Utah any more for this one. The cardboard cutouts seem imposing but I don’t know if the Jazz will be very intimidated by them. Hopefully they can overcome it.

How does Donovan Mitchell look on the floor?

Mitchell had a noticeable limp after Game 2 and so we’ll see if it was cramps, a dead-leag after an unnecessary Paul George foul at the end of regulation, or his angle being tweaked. After Game 2 Mitchell was adamant that he was fine.

Donovan Mitchell has been an absolute force and you can bet that he’s going to go out there and give everything he has for the team, if he has another epic performance tonight this season is shaping up to be one for the ages.
