Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Julio Jones landing spots: NFL insider breaks down best fits among teams favored to land the star WR - CBS Sports
Eagles. If you are looking for a dark horse outside of these teams, I have seen the Eagles around 10-1, and you can never count them out of this kind of a move. That division has no monster team, and while they are kinda retooling under a rookie head coach, they are always eager to make trades to add talent. Yes, they just drafted an Alabama WR in the first round, but the owner has traditionally been a big spender and they have a massive draft haul already assembled over the next few years, making it easier to part with in a situation like this. [BLG Note: I don’t see the Eagles outbidding other teams for Julio.]
Here’s what we know about Julio Jones trade possibilities after a day of revelations - The Falcoholic
Again, this is a big question. Jonathan Jones reports that the Falcons aren’t going to be motivated to move Julio for less than a 2nd round pick, and they’d obviously like to get more back than that. It only takes one team with a burning desire to make a big splash for their offense and fanbase to raise that price, and here I’m looking hard at the Broncos and Raiders in particular. If this team is not desperate to move him—and unless there’s something deep and deeply wrong here we’re not privy to, they’re likely not—then this could drag on for quite a while. Julio is 32 years old and expensive this year, but he’s still Julio Jones, and despite his injuries last year I haven’t seen any evidence that his skill set is dulling in any significant way. Teams have given up far more for far less, and eventually a team that really wants him figures to pony up a 2nd and potentially another pick or player. The question is whether the Falcons will be able to whip up enough of a market to get that deal, since they evidently have not to this point.
Julio Jones says he wants out of Atlanta on live, televised phone call with Shannon Sharpe - SB Nation
Instead of dancing around with “sources familiar to the situation,” Shannon went straight to Julio like it was no big deal, and straight up asked him if he wants to play for the Cowboys, or stay it Atlanta. The answer will not make Falcons fans happy. “I’m out (of Atlanta). I want to win.” I don’t even know if Julio knew he was on live TV, making this whole situation even more intriguing. Of course, Sharpe had to rib him a bit over Dallas being that possible landing spot, saying he wouldn’t win anything with the Cowboys. Not sure that’s really fair, but I mean ... it’s kinda on Dallas to prove they can return to the Super Bowl at this point.
Monday Football Monday #38: “I’m Out of There” - Julio Jones - The SB Nation NFL Show
RJ Ochoa and Pete Sweeney document the Julio Jones saga before reacting mid-show to the new audio of Julio saying “I’m out of there” on live television!
Eagles Rookie Profile: 6 things to know about Patrick Johnson - BGN
2) What are his strengths? There’s not a ton you have to fix with him. He’s a technically sound player who uses great technique to get to the ball carrier. If he’s rushing the passer, he switches things up frequently so the tackle he faces doesn’t get a read on what he’s going to do. Johnson has a lot of power in his frame, and is a master at using his hands well to get off blocks or around offensive tackles. If he lands a punch, he’s usually at an advantage right away.
At the Podium: Ryan Kerrigan reveals jersey number - BGN Radio
Ryan Kerrigan spoke with the Philly media on Monday afternoon about various topics including what led him to join the Eagles, his relationship with Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham and he even revealed what jersey number he’ll be rocking in Philly.
Where are the Eagles deep, and not so deep, after the 2021 NFL Draft: Offense edition - PhillyVoice
Are the Eagles in good shape here relative to the rest of the league? There aren’t many teams in the NFL that would trade their set of wide receivers for the Eagles’. Even with the juice and excitement that DeVonta Smith will bring to the offense, this is still probably a bottom five group on paper.
Laying the Foundation - Iggles Blitz
We heard Jalen Hurts last week. His comments show you that he’s a good fit for Sirianni and what he wants. Hurts isn’t afraid of competition. He doesn’t want anything given to him. The new coaches want to win. They know this roster has some holes so they are trying to be smart and think of this as a building year more than a contending year. The coaches are trying to lay the foundation for the future. The goal is to install the new schemes and build the right culture. And go compete. Sirianni will push this team to win games, but a down season won’t be the end of the world if the team gets pointed in the right direction. You have to think big picture. The more I see and hear from this coaching staff, the more I believe in them. The real test will be how the team plays, of course, but I’m starting to understand the coaches and what they want. It sure feels like there is a lot more cohesion this year than there was in 2020.
2021 NFL Draft process “Haul” rankings - NBC Sports Edge
NFL Draft: In a blockbuster March trade, Philly picked up San Francisco’s 2022 R1 by moving from 1.6 to 1.12 with the idea they could still get one of Alabama’s receivers in that slot. The Eagles ended up having to trade up with the Cowboys to 1.10 to hop the Giants to secure DeVonta Smith. Turns out they were correct that New York would have taken Smith. Landon Dickerson will start for a decade if his body complies. I was a big fan of three of the Eagles’ next-four picks, getting nice value on iDL Milton Williams, RB Kenneth Gainwell and iDL Marlon Tuipulotu. UDFA: My top-ranked undrafted QB, Jamie Newman, ranked as PFF’s No. 6 graded quarterback on throws 10-plus yards downfield and No. 2 (behind Trevor Lawrence) on graded throws beyond 20 yards in 2019. He may have been a R2 pick in the draft had he been Georgia’s starting QB in 2020, but Newman opted-out after the pandemic hit. Awosika was a three-year starter at OT who’ll kick inside due to a lack of length. He was one of the MAC’s best run-blocking tackles over the past three seasons.
Edge Defender Rankings: The 32 best players entering the 2021 NFL season - PFF
14. Brandon Graham, Philadelphia Eagles. Graham is one player whose sack totals at the end of his career won’t do justice to how disruptive he was as a pass-rusher. Since 2014, Graham ranks tied for 16th at the position in total sacks, but only Khalil Mack, Cameron Jordan and Von Miller have recorded more pressures than Graham has (445). Pair that with a league-high 88 tackles for loss or no gain against the run over that same span and you have one of the most well-rounded edge defenders in the game.
How good can Miles Sanders really be? - NBCSP
The question with Sanders is really how good can he be and how consistent can he be? Can he take that next step from very good to great? Can he be the type of player the Eagles can rely on for steady production week after week? Can he stay healthy enough to give the Eagles a full season or close to it? We’ve seen big games. We’ve seen big plays. We’ve seen signs that Sanders is something special. We just haven’t seen it quite often enough or quite consistently enough. This is Year 3, and it’s a big year for Sanders. His rookie contract only runs through 2022, so the point where the Eagles will have to make a decision on his future isn’t all that far off. Can he make the jump from very good to elite?
Giants 2021 roster profile: RB Corey Clement - Big Blue View
There does not figure to be room on the 53-man roster for all three of Brightwell, Armstead and Clement. There are going to be a lot of factors involved in whether or not Clement makes the 53-man roster. Barkley’s health. Armstead’s recovery from a season lost to COVID-19. Brightwell’s readiness. Clement’s ball security. Right now, with no practice access to see what players look like or how they are being utilized, I would guess that Clement makes the team. His role, though, would be a small one behind Barkley, Booker and possibly even Armstead. If Brightwell and Armstead both impress this summer, Clement could be the odd man out.
Here is what the Dallas Cowboys looked like last time Phil Mickelson won a major championship - Blogging The Boys
Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major championship in the history of golf at the young age of 50. He was in the middle of a nine-year drought as far as majors are concerned and hadn’t won this specific event in 16 years. Like we did when Tiger Woods won The Masters in 2019, we figured it would be fun to look back at the state of the Dallas Cowboys the last time that Mickelson won the PGA Championship which happened in August of 2005, but incidentally that was the same year that Tiger had last won at Augusta. Oops. In the spirit of mixing things up, we will look at the Cowboys team from the last time that Mickelson won a major championship in general (prior to Sunday obviously) which was The Open Championship in 2013.
