The Dallas Mavericks took command of the series with a 127-121 win in Game 2 against the Clippers. It wasn’t always pretty but it sure was exciting and the Mavericks held on for the win. Here are the numbers you need to know.
52.9: Mavericks three point percentage
The most important stat of the game is how blisteringly hot the team was from three. Maxi Kleber, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Kristaps Porzingis combined to shoot 11-for-13 from three, excluding the half-court attempt from Hardaway to beat the first half buzzer. Which leads to:
61: Combined points for Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Maxi Kleber.
Hardaway remained a constant but the two versatile big men also stepped up and played very well to help the Mavericks secure this win. Dorian Finney-Smith and Jalen Brunson receded due to increased defensive attention. Kristaps Porzingis has received quite a bit of criticism but he was a positive tonight.
8 and 4: Number of steals and blocks for Dallas
In Game 1 the Mavericks combined for only two steals and three blocks as a team. Tonight the Mavericks upped their combined steals and blocks from five to 12. Make no mistake, the Mavericks were not good tonight defensively; however, these extra plays may very well have been the difference in the game.
28: Combined minutes played by Ivica Zubac and Serge Ibaka
It was incredibly important for the Mavericks to play the Clippers centers off the court and they did just that.
39/7/7: Luka Doncic’ points rebounds and assists
The fact that this is not the leading stat speaks to just how special Luka is. Luka had a slight stumble when he came out cold after the half time break, but overall Luka continued to show what a monster he has become.
Bonus Stat! 2: The number of games the Mavericks need to win to advance to the second round of the playoffs since the 2011 championship season.
