Former Michigan basketball Duncan Robinson made history Monday night.
Shortly after NBA free agency opened at 6 p.m., the 6-foot-7 forward agreed to a five-year, $90 million contract to remain with the Miami Heat. The deal is the largest ever for an undrafted player and includes an early termination option in the fourth year.
But Robinson isn’t the only former Wolverine to cash in big Monday. Tim Hardaway Jr. has agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal to re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN.
Both Robinson and Hardaway, the No. 24 overall pick in 2013, have carved out nice careers in the NBA.
The 27-year-old Robinson broke into the league with the Heat in 2018 and played sparingly as a rookie but has solidified a starting role the past two years.
He is the fastest player in NBA history to hit 500 career 3-pointers and also set Miami’s franchise record with 270 made triples in 2019-20 while shooting 44.6% from beyond the arc.
Last year, Robinson started all 72 games, averaging 13.1 points. 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. At Michigan from 2016-18, he started just 49 of 115 career games and averaged 9.3 points.
Meanwhile, Hardaway, 29, has averaged more than 15 points in each of the past six seasons, with the past three spent in Dallas. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged a career-high three made triples last season while scoring 16.6 points per game.
In 544 career games, Hardaway has started 268 and averaged 13.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He has shot 49.3% from the floor.
