Monday Night Football picks: How the public is betting Bills vs. Patriots in Week 16 - DraftKings Nation

To wrap-up the last Monday Night Football game this season, the newly-crowned AFC East champion Buffalo Bills (11-3) will take on the New England Patriots (6-8) at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC. In their first matchup in Week 8, the Bills escaped with a 24-21 victory over the Pats at New Era Field.

The Bills are coming into this AFC East contest, riding a four-game winning streak, which began the last week in the November. In Week 15, Buffalo crushed the Denver Broncos 48-19 en route to winning their division title since 1995. Bills quarterback Josh Allen continued his fantastic play this season, completing 28-of-40 passes for 359, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. This season, Allen has thrown for 4,000 yards, 30 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Broncos’ defense did not have an answer for the Bills’ wide receiver duo of Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley. Diggs produced 11 receptions (13 targets) for 147 yards, while Beasley put up eight receptions (10 targets) for 112 yards. With no Stephon Gilmore for the Patriots, Diggs will likely draw the attention of J.C. Jackson, which means Beasley could be in store for a big game.

As for the Patriots (6-8), they are on a two-game losing streak. Last week, they lost 22-12 to the Miami Dolphins on the road. Starting quarterback Cam Newton and the rest of the Pats’ offense struggled to produce a single touchdown as all their points came via Nick Folk field goals.

Newton was 17-of-27 for 209 yards, along with 38 rushing yards on nine carries. His top receiving option was second-year receiver Jakobi Meyers, who had seven receptions (10 targets) for 111 yards. Defensively, New England could not stop the Dolphins’ ground attack which amassed 250 rushing yards and three touchdowns. That does not bode well on Monday night as both Devin Singletary and Zack Moss were able to make some gains on the ground last week.

With that being said, where are the bettors placing their money to begin Week XX? Let’s discuss it below! All the odds and info are provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

Buffalo is favored by seven points heading into this Week 16 AFC East matchup. The Bills are receiving 90% of the bets and 87% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Yes, the public is 100 percent right. The Bills are better than the Patriots in all three phases. They have the better quarterback, wide receivers, offensive line, defense, and even special teams. The only way the Pats keep this close is if they can control the clock with their running game.

Over/Under

The point total for this Monday contest is set at 46.5. As of now, 56% of the bets are siding with the over along with 56% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Yes, the public is right, once again. In their last four wins, the Bills have scored an average of 33.7 points per game. Meanwhile, the Patriots’ defense is only allowing 15.7 points over that same amount of time. However, in their last two games, Buffalo has allowed 24 and 22 points, respectively. Along those same lines, the point total went over in 10 of the Bills’ last 14 games.

Moneyline

The Bills have moneyline odds of -315, with the Patriots’ odds coming in at +260. Of the moneyline bets placed for this game, Buffalo is seeing 91% of the bets and 90% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Unlike last week’s upset victory by the Cincinnati Bengals over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Bills should be able to come away with the victory. Despite winning the division title, Buffalo is still playing for the second seed in the AFC playoffs, which would line them up to face whoever is the seventh seed. Do not overthink this one, Buffalo is the better football team this season.
