Which player(s) deserves more hype, based on what you hear from college coaches?
Feldman: Even though I expect Ja'Marr Chase to be a top-10 pick, I think because he opted out of the 2020 season, it seems like some football fans may have forgotten just how gifted he is. Coaches who have studied him rave about the guy. I think Kentucky linebacker Jamin Davis will soon get a lot more buzz.
Who is being overhyped?
Feldman: Some of the coaches I've spoken to are split on Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II. No one questions whether he's a really good player, but he's seen as a top-10 pick. Some guys I talked to think that Caleb Farley and Jaycee Horn are more talented prospects. The concern was that Surtain wasn't as quick as those other corners and may struggle in man-to-man situations.
Fit aside, which of the QBs after Lawrence seems to be the favorite among coaches?
Feldman: There's a lot of intrigue surrounding Wilson. Coaches are blown away by his arm and his ability to throw accurately on the run and make all sorts of off-platform throws. He had a breakout 2020 but he's an interesting study because BYU was unable to play a tough schedule due to the pandemic. In 2019, Wilson played hurt for much of the season, and given he doesn't have great size, there is some concern about his durability.
Where do coaches stand on DeVonta Smith vs. Jaylen Waddle, and how do both compare to 2020's Ruggs-Jeudy duo?
Feldman: As great as Smith was in 2020, winning the Heisman, there are some concerns about his wiry frame and how he will hold up in the NFL. His coaches and the assistants who have faced him gush about his toughness and his football smarts. Waddle is only about 185 pounds also but his quickness and change of direction are ridiculous. As much as I love the sheer speed and ability to accelerate of Henry Ruggs III, I think these two will be more productive and bigger impact guys than the 2020 draft receivers from Alabama.
