We are just days away from the official start of the 2021 NFL season, but not everyone will be healthy and ready to roll. Two days before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kick off the season against the Dallas Cowboys, star wide receiver Chris Godwin was added to the injury report with a quad issue.
According to the Buccaneers, Godwin was a limited participant in practice Tuesday after being a full participant Monday. A few other notes concerning the Bucs were that fellow wideout Antonio Brown was held out of practice Tuesday due to his knee injury after being a full participant yesterday, but one could speculate this was a move to manage his workload leading up to game day. Additionally, safety Jordan Whitehead was ruled out for Week 1 with a hamstring injury. Mike Edwards will likely fill his spot in the starting lineup.
Godwin caught 65 passes for 840 yards and seven touchdowns last season despite playing in just 12 games due to injuries. The Buccaneers placed the franchise tag on him this offseason, as they were unable to agree on an extension with the 25-year-old. The Penn State product made his first Pro Bowl in 2019 after catching 86 passes for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.
At this point, there's no reason to expect that Godwin will miss Thursday night's matchup, but there is reason to worry that he won't be 100 percent. The same goes for Brown, who is still recovering from offseason surgery.
