College football's Week 1 marathon of games featured a big Thursday night ticket and is highlighted by an all-day Saturday slate, but Friday night brings us some quality action, too, as several power conference teams will begin their seasons in the national spotlight. The Friday docket is highlighted by No. 10 North Carolina at Virginia Tech and also features a Big Ten showdown between Michigan State and Northwestern among its eight total games.
Duke, Colorado, Wake Forest and Kansas will also be in action, though the matchup between Tar Heels and Hokies certainly looks like the most intriguing game on the menu. Virginia Tech is 3-0 against ranked foes in season openers under sixth-year coach Justin Fuente but will have its hands full with UNC quarterback Sam Howell, who is regarded as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate in his third season in coach Mack Brown's program. All in all, it should be another fun night of action as the 2021 season prepares to hit full stride.
